What is BioFach India 2009 ?



BioFach India together with India Organic is a collective effort of “ BioFach Germany ” and “ India Organic Trade Fair ” which is organising the “ BioFach India ” International Organic Trade Fair every year in India.  The Nurnberg/Messe (Germany) and India Organic Trade Fair (India) had jointly shaped the “BioFach India” under the patronage of IFOAM, in 2009.


BioFach India is a highly reputed international brand of organic fairs and India Organic is the initiative of professional organic fairs within India, says Mr. Manoj Kumar Menon, Executive Director, International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA).

BioFach India celebrated its premiere in 2009 and together with India Organic attracted 129 exhibitors and 3.044 visitors from production, processing, trade and the service sector. The exhibitors participating in the event would include national producers of organic food, national wholesalers/distributors, national trade promotion organisations, federal and state pavilions, organic farmer groups, international producers, international distributors, national and international services companies.

  • Government of India has notified Domestic Organic Standards.
  • The total land area under certification has crossed one million hectares.
  • Many pan India retail chains have got very good response for their organic offerings in metro towns.
  • Over and above Biofach, the global brand for organic trade fairs has come to India.
  • The land under organic management had increased for 42000 ha (2003) to 12,00,000 ha (2009).Comment


Success of BioFach India 2009:

Vast numbers of smallholders, especially in Asia, Latin America, and Africa are carrying out practices like diversified crop rotations, using locally adapted seeds, refraining from the use of pesticides and GMO seeds, and managing soil responsibly.
