sairaj kp_sai@yahoo.com | As in the case every observation which should be scientific Development of package of practices for a crop or any cropping style like organic agricultur requires detailed study of organic cultivation, discussion with both scientists, extension workers and farmers. Usually state Agricultural Universities are doing this on a regular basis. But they have neglected organic package development. Even slight change or addition of already deve;loped package requires much work. So package for organic farming is not simple and cannot hatch overnight. | 28/8/2005 | arun k.sharma a.k_sharma@sify.com | As far as organic cultivation is concern it is the system for the perticular agro-ecological zone and we can prescribe package of prctices for the system and it would not be very much useful to make package of practies for crops which ultimately convey the message of monoculture rather diversified system, the basic principal of organic farming. | 23/8/2005 | TEJ PARTAP tej@iccoa.org |
Dear Friend,
Yes there is general lack of ORGANIC CROP PRODUCTION GUIDES. You have a point when you say they should be state wise because in organic crop guide general recommendations for farmers of whole country will be irrelevant. But there is a way.
If such guides are prduced in participation with farmers of different agroecological zones/ farming systems and experiences/ observations of their farms are added into the crop guide then it can be one guide for a crop and for all farmers. Definitely, one station based crop guidelines do not work practically in organics.
Question is will do it? ICCOA alone does not have the capacities. We need partners. Recently Govt of Maharashtra posed the same question to us and we are joining hands with them to produce organic crop production guides i.e. Paclkages of practices. APEDA has brought out package of practices for pineapple, sugarcane etc. You can also get in touch with APOF (Association for Promotion of Organic Farming), Bangalore as they have compiled package of practice information on cereals, fruits, vegetables, spices and plantation crops. Contact no is 080-23516060.
