We celebrated the 73rd Republic Day at Jaivik Vigyan Kendra with organic farmers, JVK and ICCOA team. The flag was hoisted jointly by Manoj Menon, Executive Director, ICCOA, Smt. Ammukutty, formerly with Khadi Gramodyog, Mr Girish, farmer, Kundhukottai village and Mr Jaydip Roy, Assistant Director, ICCOA.
A half day workshop was held in the training hall. Mr Manoj Menon, Executive Director, ICCOA welcomed the gathering of about 30 people including farmers from Erode, Ramnathapuram and Denkanikottai, experts and team members of JVK and ICCOA and briefly spoke about the significance of 26th January as Republic Day.
Mr Manoj Menon proposed the formation of an organic farmers’ FPC (Farmer Producer Company), which would be ‘of the farmers, by the farmers and for the farmers’. He highlighted the benefits in forming FPCs such as economies of scale, improved access to Govt. schemes, equity support, value addition, savings in transport, packaging and branding, access to wider markets and so forth. He also assured that ICCOA would fully support the farmers’ with it’s expertise and knowledge in organic farming and formation of FPOs.
Mr Vinod Bhatt, Head- corporate engagement, ICCOA and an expert on FPOs, elaborated on the various aspects of the formation of FPOs, compliances, potential markets, business opportunities in production, marketing, retail, B2B, B2C, etc.
A Q&A session followed, in which ICCOA experts clarified the doubts of the participants. The programme culminated with lunch and a tour of the 10 acre JVK farm.
